OVERVIEW

Welcome to the APAP website. Here is some information on our program, so please read it and get involved!

What is APAP?

The Alumni/ Parents Admissions Program (APAP) is vital to the success of Beloit College! Volunteers step in for admissions counselors when they cannot be at an event, thus greatly extending the reach of our department. APAPers are our most enthusiastic promoters and a great asset in attracting bright new students to Beloit.

If you are interested in becoming a part of this dynamic network of volunteers, please complete our APAP Interest Survey.

College Fairs:

Volunteers represent Beloit at college fairs near their home or work. They stand behind a literature table and talk with interested students and their parents. Volunteers do not need to be experts in admissions. Their ability to share their enthusiasm, their personal experiences or those of their children, and their love of Beloit College, make them excellent representatives. In addition, they can address geographic, climactic, and often social concerns of prospective students by comparing the area in which they now live to that of Beloit.

College fairs usually are held mid-week for 2 hours (generally from 7-9 pm). Occasionally a larger fair will be held on a weekend afternoon.

Off Campus Interview

Occasionally students are not able to make it to campus to compete during our 2 Presidential Scholarship weekends. We highly encourage students to attend, but if they have a serious conflict, an APAP volunteer may be asked to meet with the student locally and interview him or her for the scholarship. The APAP coordinator puts the student in contact with the volunteer and the student and APAPer schedule the meeting so that it fits into both schedules. The volunteer is sent information on how to conduct and evaluate these interviews. The interview usually lasts an hour and is conducted in a coffee shop, public library, or other location where you can sit and talk privately. Then the volunteer will be asked to write up the scholarship evaluation and return it to Beloit.

Parents Resource List:

Following a student's acceptance to Beloit College, we send out a list of Beloit College parents who have volunteered to have their contact information made available to prospective families. It is nice for prospective families to be able to contact current parents or parents of recent alumni to discuss the college and/or their experiences directly. These conversations typically take place via e-mail or occasionally via phone.

Receptions:

Occasionally, we have information sessions, receptions, or send-off picnics for incoming first year students. Volunteers are invited to act as hosts, and again share their experiences at Beloit. These are fun, informal events that give area APAPers a chance to become (re) acquainted with each other. These events are sometimes held at the homes of parents or alumni, or they are held at local businesses or restaurants.

Refer Students:

The Admissions Office is eager to learn of prospective Beloiters who are in the midst of the college search process. Alumni, parents, and friends of the College are often our best advocates. By talking with prospective students and their families about the outstanding opportunities available here, you help to shape the future of Beloit College.

Please open the door to the Beloit College experience for your child or a special student you know by completing this Student Referral Form.
