Let’s take a quiz! Beloit College, in Beloit, Wisconsin is:

A. In a booming metropolis, much like New York or Los Angeles
B. In a cornfield
C. In a small city, centrally located between larger cities
D. All of the above (how would this even be possible?!?!)

If you answered C, you are correct (if you answered D, you live in an alternate universe!) Beloit, Wisconsin is a small city of around 36,000 residents located right near the southern tip of Wisconsin, just above the Illinois border. We are located 50 miles from Madison, WI, 70 miles from Milwaukee, WI, and 90 miles from Chicago, IL.

Though it is nice to be in between such lovely places, as they provide excellent cultural opportunities, Beloit also has its charm. A city that has historically been based on heavy industry and factories, now moving towards more small business and entrepreneurial opportunity, Beloit is actually the second most ethnically diverse city in Wisconsin (Milwaukee is first.) Though not a ton of “swinging night life,” Beloit, WI provides a great day to day living environment, including many banks, restaurants, and grocery stores, community service opportunies, a large movie theater, video stores, library, art museum, book store, coffee shop, and even a symphony orchestra and minor league baseball team!!!

Located right on the Rock River, just off the classic downtown area, the college also has great areas to jog, bike, or just walk through leisurely. We are close enough to major cities for students to get away if they feel the need, but small enough to encourage the sense of community that is pervasive throughout campus. Hopefully, when you visit campus, you have the opportunity to take a little time to see all that our lovely city has to offer!
